Dr. Palacios is a physical ecologist studying the environmental factors that affect the distribution, abundance, and community structure of marine top predators in pelagic ecosystems. His focus is on understanding physical-biological oceanographic interactions operating at mesoscales and large scales (e.g., eddies, fronts, and biogeographic provinces), because these interactions comprise the mechanisms driving prey aggregation, and they are often helpful in explaining the observed patterns of predator-habitat association.
