We were also very happy to find a particular bird happily incubating an egg. This Guadalupe bird was captured and outfitted with a transmitter in the Aleutian Islands by Alaskan researchers during the non-breeding season this past fall. They told us they had tracked its movements in the Aleutians.
The bird’s metal and plastic bands informed them the bird was of Guadalupe origin. We had previously tracked this guy as part of the TOPP project. The bird’s return was significant in demonstrating that long-term satellite tagging can still allow birds to return to colonies and breed.
